Bekkelund Gård House Rules for Workaway Guests

Welcome to Bekkelund Gård. We are happy to have you here and appreciate your help with daily tasks around the property, garden, workshop areas, and shared spaces.

To make sure everyone has a pleasant, clean, and respectful stay, all Workaway guests are expected to follow these house rules.

1. General Respect

Bekkelund Gård is primarily a private home and the place of Caroline’s ceramic business. It is a place where people live, work, create, and stay for shorter periods of time.

Please treat the buildings, Caroline’s ceramic workshop, the garden, tools, shared spaces, and all accommodation areas with care and respect.

There are no farm animals at Bekkelund Gård, but we do have Pepsi the cat. Please be kind to Pepsi and make sure doors are not left open in a way that could cause problems.

Everyone is expected to be considerate of the people who live and visit here, as well as other guests staying on the property.

Please keep noise to a reasonable level, especially in the evenings and early mornings.

2. Cleanliness and Tidiness

Everyone is responsible for keeping their own living area tidy and clean.

This applies whether you are staying:

  • in the Workaway apartment
  • above Caroline’s ceramic workshop
  • in the garden gazebo
  • or in any other space on the property

Your sleeping area should be kept organized, aired regularly, and free from food waste, dirty dishes, garbage, and unnecessary mess.

Each person is responsible for their own personal belongings. Please keep clothes, bags, valuables, toiletries, chargers, and other items stored neatly in your own space, not in shared areas.

3. Shared Bathroom Cleaning

The shared bathroom used by Workaway guests must be cleaned every Monday and Thursday.

This includes:

  • cleaning the toilet
  • cleaning the sink
  • cleaning the shower area
  • wiping mirrors and surfaces
  • emptying the garbage bin
  • replacing toilet paper if needed
  • cleaning the floor

The guests staying at Bekkelund are responsible for making sure this is done properly. Please agree among yourselves who cleans on each cleaning day.

4. Toilet Use

To help keep the bathroom clean and pleasant for everyone, boys and men are encouraged to pee sitting down, not standing.

This helps avoid splashes, smell, and extra cleaning.

Everyone must leave the toilet clean after use.

5. Kitchen and Cooking Areas

Workaway guests cook in the place where they live. Please keep all cooking areas clean and tidy.

After cooking, always:

  • wash dishes, pans, and utensils
  • wipe kitchen counters and tables
  • clean the stove or cooking area
  • put food away properly
  • take care of garbage and recycling
  • avoid leaving food out overnight

Important safety: Always make sure that the kitchen oven is turned off after use.

6. Garbage and Recycling

Garbage must be placed in the correct bins.

Please separate waste and recycling according to the instructions given at Bekkelund Gård.

Do not leave garbage bags, bottles, food packaging, or empty containers in your room, bathroom, kitchen, workshop, garden, or shared spaces.

7. Laundry and Wet Clothes

Please keep wet clothes, towels, and work clothes in suitable places where they can dry properly.

Do not leave wet items on beds, floors, furniture, or in shared areas.

Dirty work clothes and shoes should be kept away from clean living areas.

8. Shoes and Work Clothes

Please do not wear muddy shoes or dirty outdoor shoes inside living areas.

Use the designated place for shoes, boots, and outdoor clothing.

If you have been working outside, please make sure you do not bring mud, clay, grass, or dirt into the house, bathroom, the Workaway apartment, or sleeping areas.

9. Tools and Equipment

If you use tools or equipment, please return everything to its correct place after use.

Tools should be cleaned if needed and never left outside in the rain.

If something breaks, is damaged, or does not work properly, please tell us immediately.

10. Smoking, Fire, and Candles

Smoking is only allowed in designated outdoor areas.

Cigarette ends must be disposed of safely and never thrown on the ground.

Candles, open flames, heaters, and fire-related items must be used only if approved by the hosts.

Never leave fire, candles, heaters, or cooking equipment unattended.

11. Guests and Visitors

Workaway guests may not invite visitors to stay overnight unless this has been agreed in advance with the hosts.

Please always ask before inviting anyone onto the property.

12. Quiet Time

Please respect quiet time from 22:00 to 07:00.

During this time, keep voices, music, phones, and other noise low so everyone can rest.

13. Leaving Your Accommodation

Before leaving Bekkelund Gård, your sleeping area and any shared spaces you have used must be cleaned properly.

This includes:

  • removing all personal belongings
  • emptying garbage
  • cleaning surfaces
  • vacuuming or sweeping the floor
  • washing used dishes
  • leaving bedding and towels as instructed
  • returning borrowed items

Please leave the space ready for the next person.

14. Final Note

These rules are not meant to be strict or uncomfortable. They are here to make daily life easier and more pleasant for everyone.

We appreciate your help, your positive attitude, and your respect for Bekkelund Gård.

Thank you for being part of our place.

Practical Information for Workaway Guests

This information is meant to help make daily routines at Bekkelund Gård clear and easy to follow.

1. Working Hours

Working hours normally start at 09:00 on weekdays, unless something different has been agreed in advance.

Please meet in the kitchen in the main house at 09:00 for a short morning meeting. This is where the day’s tasks will usually be explained and agreed.

Workaway guests work 5 hours per day.

Weekends are normally off.

You may choose to work the 5 hours continuously without a lunch break, or you may take a lunch break and continue afterwards. Regardless of how you organize the day, the total working time should be 5 hours per working day.

2. When Tasks Are Finished

Important: If you finish the task or tasks you have been given, please contact Caroline or Kjetil before stopping work.

Do not assume that the workday is finished just because one task is completed. There may be other tasks that need attention.

3. Kitchen Safety

Important safety: Always make sure that the kitchen oven is turned off after use.

Please also make sure that cooking plates, lights, and other electrical appliances are turned off when you are finished using them.

4. Power in the Workaway Apartment

Occasionally, the circuit breaker for the power to the Workaway apartment may shut off the electricity.

This typically happens if one or more of the ceramic ovens are in use.

The circuit breaker panel is located behind the door in the bathroom.

All switches should be in the up position.

If all switches are already in the up position and the power is still out, please contact Kjetil or Caroline. This may mean that another circuit breaker inside the main house has gone out.

Please do not try to fix electrical problems beyond checking the circuit breaker panel in the bathroom.
